With its original thatched cottages, traditional village pub, and beautiful 12th-century church, Kirtlington exudes a timeless charm that transports visitors back in time. The village is surrounded by lush green fields, and meandering streams, providing ample opportunities for walking, cycling, and other outdoor activities.
Kirtlington's rich history is reflected in its numerous heritage sites, including the magnificent Kirtlington Park, a grand country estate that dates back to the 18th century. The village also played a pivotal role in the English Civil War, with its strategic location and proximity to Oxford making it a site of significant military action. But Kirtlington isn't just a place for history buffs and nature enthusiasts. The village is also home to a vibrant community of artists, writers, and musicians, and hosts a range of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.
Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, an active outdoor adventure, or a dose of culture and history, Kirtlington offers something for everyone. So why not come and discover this charming village for yourself?
Kirtlington & the Budgetts
Charlie and Lucy live on the family farm where Charlie grew up, along with their three young children Daisy, Isabella and Freddie. Having recently taken over the running of the farm, they are working to continue the diversification instigated by Charlie’s parents, James and Roo.
Alongside agriculture, horses are a big feature of the farm which is home to Kirtlington Park Polo Club, started by Charlie’s Great Grandfather, Hugh Budgett, in 1926. In more recent years, Charlie has restarted a stud breeding flat race horses on the same land where his Grandfather, Arthur Budgett, bred horses in the 50s and 60s, including two Derby winners. There are now also offices in old farm buildings and a vet practice on site too.
The Mirror Houses are located in woodland in a quiet area of the farm next to a lake designed by Capability Brown in the early 1750s. With their mirrored exteriors reflecting the trees and nature around them, they blend into the woods allowing guests to experience this wonderful, peaceful spot in a very different way.
My boyfriend organized an Estonia trip for me, authentically including cross country skiing and staying in Rooslepa in an ÖÖD Mirror House. Loved the house but can’t necessarily say the same about the cross country skiing ;).
I will book us a trip to Kirtlington, I’m sure he will love the house and the Polo lesson ;).

I stayed in a few of the ÖÖD Mirror Houses in Estonia and absolutely loved the experience. I can’t wait to explore new sites around the world. The site in Kirtlington is certainly next on my list.

My favorite Mirror House site so far is Metsajärve in Estonia…the lake, the paddleboarding, the nature, simply beautiful. I was told by team ÖÖD, that the Kirtlington site has a similar vibe. I will have to go and check it out.
