With its original thatched cottages, traditional village pub, and beautiful 12th-century church, Kirtlington exudes a timeless charm that transports visitors back in time. The village is surrounded by lush green fields, and meandering streams, providing ample opportunities for walking, cycling, and other outdoor activities.
Kirtlington's rich history is reflected in its numerous heritage sites, including the magnificent Kirtlington Park, a grand country estate that dates back to the 18th century. The village also played a pivotal role in the English Civil War, with its strategic location and proximity to Oxford making it a site of significant military action. But Kirtlington isn't just a place for history buffs and nature enthusiasts. The village is also home to a vibrant community of artists, writers, and musicians, and hosts a range of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.
Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, an active outdoor adventure, or a dose of culture and history, Kirtlington offers something for everyone. So why not come and discover this charming village for yourself?
Kirtlington & the Budgetts
Charlie and Lucy live on the family farm where Charlie grew up, along with their three young children Daisy, Isabella and Freddie. Having recently taken over the running of the farm, they are working to continue the diversification instigated by Charlie’s parents, James and Roo.
Alongside agriculture, horses are a big feature of the farm which is home to Kirtlington Park Polo Club, started by Charlie’s Great Grandfather, Hugh Budgett, in 1926. In more recent years, Charlie has restarted a stud breeding flat race horses on the same land where his Grandfather, Arthur Budgett, bred horses in the 50s and 60s, including two Derby winners. There are now also offices in old farm buildings and a vet practice on site too.
The Mirror Houses are located in woodland in a quiet area of the farm next to a lake designed by Capability Brown in the early 1750s. With their mirrored exteriors reflecting the trees and nature around them, they blend into the woods allowing guests to experience this wonderful, peaceful spot in a very different way.
Kirtlington UK site rules:
No driving fast (above 15mph) whilst on Park Farm.
No swimming in the lake.
No children under 16 – only babies in arms.
No smoking inside the houses.
No loud music.
No naked flames other than BBQ inside or outside the houses.
We absolutely LOVED our weekend in the Mirror House - 10/10! Lucy and Charlie had thoughts about so many details - from ensuring we had the basic supplies (milk, butter, bread, granola etc) to having the sauna and BBQ all set-up ready to go. The guest info booklet was super helpful along with the polo club brochure - we would have loved to see a match if it hadn't been raining! It was also lovely to meet Lucy, Charlie and kids on a walk / at the pub
A few suggestions to make the experience even better: 2 hooks outside the sauna for hanging robes would be very handy; a little more storage for clothes and belongings in the house (e.g. drawer/shelf unit under the mirror); and encouraging some more tress to grow to shield the front door from the path would make it feel even more private.

Peaceful, relaxing and unique experience - perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. The Mirror Houses are private and remote + the sauna was an amazing feature. Hosts were proactive and provided helpful information for check-in and for information regarding the local area. Would stay again!

Honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. Think this is the best place I have ever stayed in. If you want a high-class escape to nature, look no further. Incredibly well constructed with all the luxury essentials you would need (including most you have never thought of). Lucy was an incredible host, beyond helpful and communicative throughout. Going the extra mile more times than could have been expected. The place is breathtaking. You wake up in nature and have privacy you can't quite get over. The quality of it all is incomparable. Couldn't recommend it more.
